“Just get 60 centimetres, that'll do” – that is how people buy wipers that later hit the seal or leave an unwiped sector right in front of their eyes. Wiper size is not an approximate value but a specific pair of numbers for a specific model, a specific generation and sometimes even a specific side for the steering wheel. Here is how to find your size reliably.
Selection catalogues are based on the wiper manufacturers' data for each body style and year of manufacture. In the TopWipers vehicle search you choose make → model → generation/year and get the exact lengths for both sides, the rear wiper and the right mount type. At the same time you can see which ranges (flat beam, hybrid) exist for your connector – we have a dedicated overview of the mount types.
The factory lengths are listed in the section on windscreen wipers. The drawback: if a previous owner has already fitted something different, the manual is the only source for how it should be.
Measure along the blade with a tape measure and round to standard values (the usual increment is 25 mm: 400, 425, 450 … 700 mm). The drawbacks are obvious: you may copy the previous owner's mistake, and you learn nothing about the mount type. Use this as a cross-check, not as the main method.
Technically it sometimes fits, but the risk of contact with the seals and the other blade rises, especially in frost. We advise against deviating.
The zone in front of the driver is crucial for visibility; the geometry of the wiper linkage is designed so that the long blade clears it as completely as possible.
Through the same vehicle search – the rear wiper is listed separately. Measuring is harder here: many rear wipers have integrated special connectors.
Hardly: neighbouring lengths in a range usually cost the same or differ by €1–3. There is no point trying to save on the size.
Don't guess, look it up: choose make and model – the exact sizes along with the mount type appear automatically.
